These past 10 months have not been easy, they have been the hardest of my life. I have striped down, rubbed raw, and left out in the cold (all figuratively of course). I know in my heart that I am not alone physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Last week I took a week off… I didn’t originally plan to, but I was away at a conference for work, and truly just dropped the ball on preplanning my post. Also, (the main reason) one of my cats had been sick and she passed away last weekend. Cue the grief. I don’t know if I had tricked myself into thinking that I was finally in a good place or if I was and the death of my cat just the door wide open again. I really don’t care to figure that part out because I no matter the reason, I was back to square 1.
Traveling and my cat being sick got me thinking about what I do to help ease my anxiety. For those that don’t know me well, I am an anxious traveler… meaning until I get to my destination I am a wreck…. literally…. sweaty, cranky, scattered….! It’s terrible! I also ALWAYS need to have control or the illusion of control. This leads me to my first way to ease my anxiety.
1. Plan ahead! If it’s a trip, I plan out my trip ahead of time, when I will arrive, when I need to check out, etc. I also print out all of my travel confirmations and my flight confirmation. This way of my phone dies, or I have poor cell service, I can find all of my information in case I need it. If it’s work, I make sure to plan my week on Monday. List the things I need to get done that week, then fill in the tasks that need to get each day. This helps all of the little tasks fill in the rest of the my days.
These are two of my favorite planners! I like having the vertical boxes because I like to have what I am doing that day in the top box, the middle box has my daily to do’s, and the bottom box has what I have finished.
2. Prayer! Every night before I lay down to go to bed I read one of my prayer books. This to remind me that I am in charge of happiness, and that God is in control no matter how much I plan. It keeps me grounded and connected to bible, it’s teachings, and to God. Without my faith I never would have gotten through the last 10 month!
3. Crochet! Having something that is just for me to do helps me relax. I can do it with the TV on or in the quiet of the morning. I am a fidgeter, I need to keep my hands busy. It helps me focus on tasks and helps me not think about things I shouldn’t. Crochet helps me focus my energy on something positive instead of thinking about “what ifs”. I am a master at the what if game and my mind always goes to the worse cased scenario right out the gate.
4. Oils! I prefer DoTerra, but there are other options out there to buy therapy grade essential oils. I have a couple of stress blend that my sister has made for me, and they are amazing! I also really enjoy oil infused Epsom salt for baths. One my new favorites this week is Aveeno Body wash with lavender, chamomile and ylang-ylang. **Please be aware that if you are pregnant, speak with you doctor about the use of Ylang-Yang oils.**
Please only purchase therapy grade oils from a seller of Young Living or DoTerra or from their websites. Many items are listed as therapy grade, but may not be. If you have questions please let me know.
The most important part about handling anxiety is finding ways that work for you! Everyone is different! I would love to be able to afford to a 60 minute massage every month, but that just not possible right now, but luckily the things I listed above are budget friendly! I have linked all my favorites from each tip, and some are affiliate links, which means if you make a purchase from a link I will get a small commission.
Let me know in the comments how you ease your anxiety!
